Choosing a shaft collar Start with the shaft diameter and check whether it is metric or imperial, because both are listed. Then choose the collar type. Set screw collars are held by a screw on the shaft. Clamp collars are held by tightening the split collar around the shaft. A two piece collar goes around the shaft from the side, which helps where a one piece collar cannot be slid on from the shaft end. Choose 304 stainless steel where the collar will be exposed to moisture or washdown. Check the material of the screws or bolts too, so the fasteners match the collar. Always check the data sheet. Confirm the bore, size and holding requirement suit your shaft and application before ordering. Related ranges Collars are often used with couplings , taper lock bushes , pulleys and sprockets .
