Sweets have inspired and defined American culture through out the years. Early century candy was simplistic in ingredients and often times thought to be medicinal. Flavors like licorice and clove were through to aid in digestion. Sweet candies were considered more of a special treat or enjoyed as a reward or gift. We can still enjoy many early confections like Necco Wafers, Life Savers, Hershey Kisses, King Leo peppermint sticks, Tootsie Rolls, Mary Jane, and Good & Plenty. However some of the old time favorites like Squirrel Nut Zippers and Peach Blossoms are no longer in production.
