A name synonymous with motorsport and automotive beauty, Maserati was founded in the world of motor racing. Unpretentious in design though notorious for their reliability problems, the trident-bearing Italian marque forged themselves an iron-clad reputation for beauty and speed on track over the last century. Legendary racers such as Tazio Nuvolari, Achille Varzi, Emilio Materazzi, Umberto Borzacchini, Piero Taruffi, Luigi Fagioli, Nino Farina, Raymond Sommer, Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Froilan Gonzales, Luigi Musso, Jean Behra, Stirling Moss, and Nino Vaccarella have all owned or piloted Maseratis. From the inaugural Tipo 26 in 1926, through the double-Indy 500 winning 8CTF in 1939 and 1940, to the iconic 1950s Formula 1 car, the 250F, Maserati has showcased remarkable speed and design, achieving notable success in both Europe and the United States. It remains the only Italian manufacturer to win the Indy 500. The brand's legacy is not confined to its pre-1970s vehicles; the MC12 captured an impressive 14 titles in FIA GT between 2004 and 2010. Since 1940, Maserati has been rooted in the heart of Italian automotive manufacturing in Modena. Despite a complicated ownership history, including a period under the stewardship of its neighbouring rival Ferrari, Maserati has continued to produce many iconic models like the Quattroporte, Mistral and Ghibli throughout its near 100-year manufacturing history.
