Guppies are so popular in the aquarium trade becuase of their playful personality, friendly temperament and hardy nature. They express tonnes of character and each have their own personality, forming social bonds among each other. They do quite well in community tanks because they are peaceful and do not exhibit agressive behaviour unlike certain species of fish. They are also beginner-friendly and easy to keep, able to adapt to a wide variety of tank parameteres making them particularly popular for new fishkeepers. What Do Guppies Need in Their Tank? The average guppy grows to about 5cm in length, and so we recommend a minimum 20 litre tank for 3-4 guppies. Because they are livebeareres, they can quickly very quickly so a larger tank of 50-60 litres is more recommended. They enjoy pH levels of 7.0-8.0 and hard water with essential minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium. The ideal temperature range for guppies is between 20 °C to 28°C, a lower temperature will increase their lifespan and reduce the rate of activity and breeding. What Do Guppies Eat? Guppies are omnivores that do best on a balanced diet of flakes, tropical pellets, live or freeze-dried foods (like brine shrimp and bloodworms), and occasional vegetables such as blanched spinach or peas. We recommend to feed them 1-2 times a day, and only what they can eat in 2 minutes to prevent overfeeding and affecting water quality. If you are raising fry, you can feed up to 3 times a day with powder or brine shrimp. Guppy Breeding Tips for Beginners If you w
