Its pores are sealed naturally by tyloses — a cellular structure that makes White Oak exceptionally resistant to moisture, which is why it’s been used for wine barrels and ship hulls for centuries. And its ray-fleck pattern — those subtle, silvery streaks that appear when the wood is quarter-sawn — gives it a visual depth that flat-sawn lumber simply doesn’t have. In practical terms: White Oak is harder than Red Oak, more moisture-resistant, and more dimensionally stable.
