About

The d4 dice, also known as 4-sided dice, are platonic solids shaped like tetrahedrons. Often referred to as caltrops due to their sharp, pointed design, these dice are also called pyramid dice. Each standard 4-sided die has three numbers on its four faces, with the result typically determined by the number at the topmost corner after a roll. However, older versions of the d4 dice, including the original dice used in Dungeons & Dragons, had numbers centered along the edges, with the result read from the bottom. The d4 dice are among the oldest dice ever discovered, with a history that dates back over 5,000 years. The Royal Game of Ur, an ancient board game, used 4-sided dice similar to the ones we use today, highlighting the long-standing significance of these dice in human history.
