About
Dice for Beginners If you're about to play your first game of Dungeons & Dragons and someone told you to "bring dice," this is where you start. A standard D&D dice set has 7 pieces: a d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and a percentile die (another d10 marked in tens). That's everything you'll need for character creation and gameplay. If that sounds like a lot, don't worry: your DM will tell you which one to roll. For a first set, we recommend acrylic or resin dice with high-contrast inking for the numbers. They're easy to read, lightweight, and affordable enough that you can grab a second set in a different color once you catch the dice-collecting bug (and you will). Pick a color you like and you're good to go. Want to learn more about how dice work in D&D? Our blog covers everything from dice probability to how to pick dice for specific character classes. If you already know you want something with more heft, check out metal dice —they're a step up in both weight and price. Or browse all our DnD dice to explore what's out there.
