About
Rectangle is a format rather than a material, covering everything from small metro brick tiles through to large flagstone formats, and it brings real rhythm to a bathroom laid stacked, staggered, or in a classic herringbone. Large format rectangle tiles keep grout lines to a minimum for a calm, contemporary bathroom finish, while smaller rectangular tiles bring texture to a feature wall, behind the basin, or inside a shower nook. One useful trick worth knowing: lay them vertically to make the ceiling feel higher, or horizontally to make the room feel wider. On the floor, choose a naturally finished tile rather than anything polished, since gloss turns slippery once wet. A herringbone layout brings real movement to a bathroom floor, especially when paired with a calmer, plainer tile on the walls.
