About
Real wood floors are lovely until moisture gets involved: they lift, warp, and generally do not cope well in a bathroom or wet room. Wood effect tiles give you the warmth and grain of natural timber with none of those worries, tactile and characterful in a way that only became possible with fairly recent tile technology. The range runs from rustic, weathered finishes with the aged patina of old alpine lodge floors, through to cleaner, more refined planks suited to contemporary open-plan spaces. Many carry an anti-slip finish, so they work well in wet rooms, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces where real wood is simply not an option, and they are also suitable for underfloor heating, which many timber floors are not. Laid in herringbone, straight lay, or a staggered brick bond, wood effect tiles bring real warmth underfoot. In a larger room, a staggered, offset layout tends to give the most natural, relaxed result.
