"Battle ready" is a construction standard, not a claim about what a sword is for. It describes how the piece is built: functional steel rather than cast pot metal, a blade that has been through heat treatment, a tang that runs the full length of the handle, and a guard and pommel fitted tight enough that nothing shifts. A sword built to that standard is a different object from a decorative wall piece, and the difference is mostly invisible until you pick it up. Everything in this collection is hand-forged to that standard in 1095 high carbon or pattern-welded Damascus steel. What actually makes a sword battle ready Functional steel Decorative swords are commonly cast from stainless alloys chosen for shine and corrosion resistance rather than strength, or from unhardened mild steel. A functional blade starts as high carbon steel and is forged. Ours are 1095, typically finishing around 56 to 58 HRC, or layered Damascus at roughly 55 to 56 HRC. Both are high carbon, which means both need to be kept clean, dry and lightly oiled. A hardened blade Heat treatment is what turns steel into a blade. An unhardened sword of the correct shape and weight is still a wall hanger. Where a clay tempered option is offered, the spine is left softer than the edge, which is the traditional Japanese approach and produces the visible hamon line. Full tang The tang is the part of the blade that continues into the handle. On a full tang sword the steel runs the entire length of the grip and is secured at the pommel. On a decorative partial or rat-tail tang it stops short, often held by a thin threaded rod. This is the single most common difference between a functional sword and a display piece, and it is the one you cannot see from a photograph. Every sword in this collection is full tang.
