About
Urban is an exhibition of new acrylic and oil paintings by Cinta Vidal . In this collection, Vidal explores the cityscapes of the different places she has visited and which have captivated her. She is fascinated by the random collective composition that urban spaces have. In these works, she plays with multiple perspectives in order draw parallels to the different points of view we all have in our environments. In a metropolis, people live very close together physically, but they can be very far apart in terms of their interior lives. As an added dimension, Vidal also uses general views and zooms of the same cities to show concrete scenes that may be happening inside the paintings themselves. Opening Night: Saturday, August 10th, from 6pm - 9 pm. Free entry. This exhibition will be on view from August 11th to September 1st, concurrently with Chris Leib's solo show, The Primate Directive . Cinta Vidal (Spain) defies gravity and architectural conventions to create encapsulated scenes of intersecting perspectives. Vidal paints in acrylics on wood panels, and she refers to the paintings as "un-gravity constructions." Each piece examines how a person's internal perspective of life may not match up with the reality around them. The intersecting planes on many of her paintings are somewhat reminiscent of drawings by M. C. Escher, where every angle and available surface is inhabited by colourful characters going about their daily lives.
