Hollow is a collection of surrealist still lifes by David Lee Pereira , using the language of the Dutch masters religious themes but twisted through the lens of a contemporary queer artist responding to the awkwardness of dating in a digital world, broken connections, disposable love and the loneliness of isolation. This exhibition will run from January 30th - February 20th and will coincide with QimmyShimmy's show I Scream, You Scream , Jai Raphael's Abyss & Beau White's Toe . Closing reception: Feb 20th, 3 - 6pm We also have a new limited edition print by David Lee Pereira . Pereira notes that his work is usually about sexuality, gender, and intimacy and connections and relationships and the complexity of these narratives for queer people. He has been affected by depression, mental illness and the extreme isolation from other people due to the pandemic; this particular body of work reflects this and is difficult for him to show. There is a melancholia evident, a heavy cloud of lonely blue and a warning haze of deep red. These paintings feature moody skies, dead flowers, empty glass vessels, gay sex paraphernalia, dead birds and insects/spiders. David Lee Pereira is a visual artist whose works include illustrations, paintings, large-scale murals and public installations. Pereira’s art explores identity, sexuality and gender through recurring themes of dysphoria and interpersonal relationships. He is influenced by the work of O’Keefe, Munch and Dali.
