Finding the right filter number Filters are bought by number, not by description. Sierra 18 series parts list the OE number they cross to right in the title (18-7866 replaces MAR-FUELF-IL-TR, 18-7860 fits MerCruiser), so match against what came off the engine rather than the boat model. Volvo Penta, Mercury Mercruiser, Quicksilver, PCM and EMP parts are listed under their own numbers. Water separating filters and plain fuel filters are not interchangeable even when the thread is the same. A separator has a bowl or a drain and is meant to pull water out of ethanol blended gas before it reaches the injectors. Several parts here carry a Case of 12 option, which is how most shops buy the ones they change every season.
