About
Allan Ahlberg is an acclaimed children’s author. His work has spanned generations of children, with over 100 children’s books published. Allan wrote a wide selection of picture books with his late wife Janet Ahlberg illustrating them. Together, they wrote British classics like Peepo , Burglar Bill , Each Peach Pear Plumb , The Jolly Postman and the scarily funny FunnyBones series. Their picture books are perfect for younger children, aged 0-5 and 5-7 years-old. Allan and Janet Ahlberg Allan and Janet met when they were both working as school teachers. Janet quickly became an established illustrator after she illustrated My Growing Up Book by Bernard Garfinkel. Their collaborative efforts began when Janet asked Allan to write a story and she illustrated it, and the rest is history. The first book of their collaboration was a picture book published in 1975, The Brick Street Boys . The couple then went on to publish over one hundred different picture books covering all kinds of genres. Some firm favourites include Peepo , perfect for little ones as it is a picture book told through a day in a life of a baby. Each Peach Pear Plum is an interactive picture book filled with fairytales and familiar characters like Cinderella and Tom Thumb written like a nursery rhyme. Another favourite is Burglar Bill , a sneaky robber who steals everything in sight when one night Bill steals a mysterious box with holes in only to discover a baby inside! A great book for young children starting school is Starting School by Janet and Allan Ahlberg . The book encapsulates the nerves and apprehensions of children as they take those first few steps into school and education.
