The Last Kingdom The Last Kingdom, also known as the Saxon Series, has a total of thirteen books following the journey of Uhtred of Bebbanburg, who was born into a Saxon family but was captured as a child and adopted by a Danish Warlord. Cornwell takes the reader through the battle between the Saxons and the Danes for the last kingdom, Wessex. The story officially came to an end in 2020 with Cornwell’s last book of the series, War Lord . The TV adaptation of The Last Kingdom began in 2015 and finished in 2022, with a feature-length movie following in 2023.
