Dav Pilkey is an American author, illustrator and cartoonist that is behind some of the most well-known children's book series, Captain Underpants and Dog-Man . Pilkey was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia and often would disrupt the classroom, resulting in him being sent out of class a lot. During these times, he would often write stories or draw cartoons for his own entertainment. Pilkey has channelled his vivid imagination with creative storytelling to create some of the most beloved characters in children's literature. Pilkey's books provide humour with the overall kind-hearted nature of humanity. His books are designed to be easy to read and follow whilst keeping children entertained throughout. The books encourage children to use their imagination and unlock their own creative potential, as well as encourage them to read in their spare time. Captain Underpants Books Since the first book was published in 1997, Captain Underpants has gone on to be an international bestseller and has been translated into over twenty languages. The success of the series may be down to the relatability of the two main characters, best friends Harold and George. The two boys are fourth graders, 9-10-year-olds, from Ohio who create an underpants-wearing superhero out of their mean school principal. There are a total of twelve books in the series, as well as additional activity books and spin-offs. Captain Underpants books are aimed at readers aged 7+.
