Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming is a well-respected martial arts master, author, and teacher who has significantly contributed to spreading knowledge of traditional Chinese martial arts and Qigong in the Western world. Born on August 11, 1946, in Xinzhu, Taiwan, Dr. Yang began his martial arts training at the age of 15 under White Crane Master Cheng Gin-Gsao. He later studied Taijiquan (Yang style) under Master Kao Tao and Shaolin Long Fist (Changquan) under Master Li Mao-Ching. After earning a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Tamkang College in Taiwan, Dr. Yang came to the United States in 1974 to pursue advanced studies. He earned a Master's degree in Physics from the University of Alabama and later a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1978. In the early 1980s, Dr. Yang established his own martial arts teaching organization in Boston, Massachusetts, which grew into an international presence with schools around the world. He also founded a publication center that has become one of the most prolific publishers of martial arts books and DVDs, with Dr. Yang himself authoring over 35 books and producing numerous instructional videos. His teaching focuses on the synthesis of martial arts theory and practice, emphasizing the importance of understanding the cultural, philosophical, and scientific foundations of Chinese martial arts. He is known for his comprehensive approach to teaching traditional Chinese arts including Taijiquan, Qigong, Shaolin Kung Fu, and Chinese weapons. In 2008, Dr. Yang established a retreat center in California, a 10-year full-time training program designed to preserve traditional Chinese martial arts by training the next generation of teachers.
