Originally blended and manufactured by Don "Pepin" García for the now-defunct EO Brands, the 601 Green Label Oscuro cigars were part of several blends that set Erik Espinosa, founder of Espinosa Cigars, on a path that would soon be covered in high-quality releases of his own. Before producing his own brands, Espinosa had a cigar industry background, but his was not the path of a multi-generational cigar family. Born in Havana and raised in Miami, Espinosa did get his passion for cigars from his father. Everything else would come from a decade and a half of working nearly every cigar job the industry has to offer. Along the way, Espinosa worked for or was involved with big names like Rocky Patel and Drew Estate, to name a few. The 91-rated 601 Green Label Oscuro cigars are carefully crafted to deliver a potent cigar to the experienced smoker. Powering this temperamental stick is an aged blend of Cuban-seed Nicaraguan long-fillers. The wrapper is a dark and glistening Habano Oscuro leaf. 601 Green Label Oscuro cigars are so covered in oil they’re sticky to touch, but it’s well worth it. One the cold draw, we’re getting something sweet like cocoa, but there’s also a more natural tobacco note. Once lit, it’s allspice, pepper, coffee, sweetness, and wood. About halfway through, the coffee, spice, pepper, and wood are center stage. The smoke is heavy and filled with flavors. Toward the end, the coffee is going strong, the wood is more of a cedar note, and the natural tobacco appears one last time for its final hurrah. Now that was one hell of a cigar. There’s no other way to say it. Just make sure you have a good amount of smoking experience behind your back before lighting up, seeing as they created this one for the seasoned smoker.
