The La Bomba line is straight from the mind of Havana-born Erik Espinosa, founder of Espinosa Premium Cigars. Before launching his own company and numerous successful brands, Espinosa worked for names like Rocky Patel and Drew Estate. The success of 601 La Bomba cigars, Murcielago, and many other Espinosa creations led to the opening of his factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, where the bangers keep coming. But not many saw Erik Espinosa coming. Now that he has our attention, we’re always eagerly waiting to see what he does next. The 601 cigar line, created by Don "Pepin" García, is known for delivering well-made, delicious, ultra-strong cigars. The 91-rated 601 La Bomba cigars are no exception. The fuse-like pigtailed Nicaragua puros use an oily, dark chocolate brown Nicaraguan Habano leaf to cover uber fermented gunpowder strong Nicaraguan Ligero long-fillers. This one is strong. Don’t expect any warmup here, as these cigars ignite to 11 from the start. Get one of the 601 La Bomba cigars burning, and you’re hit with the expected spice bomb. But this detonation also includes chocolate, earth, and sweetness. The smoke is full and the texture creamy. Cocoa and pepper notes are quick to follow. About halfway through, and the spice leads the offensive with the flavors listed above chugging right along. Various notes will duck in and out, though nothing really sticks save a nuttiness toward the end. The La Bomba is a complex, slow-burning cigar with an even burn and good draw.
