The Aging Room Quattro Maduro (formerly the F55 Maduro) is the sibling to Cigar Aficionado’s 2013 #2 Cigar of the Year, just wearing a different wrapper. The F55 line that earned so much praise that year was simply rebranded as the Aging Room Quattro, and that’s how we know it today. Much of what made the Aging Room Quattro blend a hit the first time around is still here. The foundation is the Dominican Habano filler and binder that has been the brand’s signature from the early days, thanks to the partnership with José “Jochy” Blanco. Rafael Nodal, the founder of Aging Room, was not a generational tobacco man like so many in the industry. Instead, he was something of a breakout blender once he hooked up with Blanco and the team at Tabacalera Palma in the Dominican Republic. The point is: when you’re new to an industry, you need quality partners to help fill in the gaps. The Aging Room Quattro Maduro blend swapped out the famous Sumatra wrapper of the F55 for a dark Mexican San Andrés leaf. This took the flavor profile of the smoke from one dominated by classic coffee bean and aged cedar to one displaying more of the spicy character for which Mexican San Andrés tobacco is known. To this signature pepper note reviewers have noted interesting tastes like toasted pistachio and a distinct citrus flavor, making the Aging Room Quattro Maduro a complex departure from the original Aging Room legacy line.
