About

This cigar is a true mixture of the new world and the old world of Africa. AJ Fernandez has taken his blending talents in an ambitious new direction with this, his first smoke to feature a Cameroon wrapper. The AJ Fernandez New World Cameroon cigar was named to recall the first explorers who reached the western hemisphere from Europe. It was a momentous time for cigar smokers in particular because, back then, no gringo had ever even heard of tobacco! It was completely a new world product. But once Europeans got a taste of the smoke from the energizing leaf that would leave you feeling a little bit high and with a desire for more, they were hooked. The Native Americans originally used tobacco (their word) medicinally and in ceremonies. It was traditionally smoked in pipes. The scientific name eventually was recorded as Nicotiana tabacum, after the French ambassador to Portugal, Jean Nicot de Villemain. He was the first one to forward tobacco and seeds along to the King of France in the 1500s. And of course, the word nicotine comes from this name. The Cameroon wrapper on this cigar is unlike some of the oily, buttery leaves you might be used to. Instead, it’s rough, dry, and delicate. Smoking Cameroon tobacco is a different kind of experience, one typically led by notes of fragrant wood, which is true in this case. The flavor profile brought on in combination with the Nicaraguan filler blend includes toasted wood, creamy almond, and white pepper. This particular vitola is a torpedo that’s 6.5 inches long and has a ring gauge of 52. You may also know the shape as a “pyramid” – one that tapers at the head, which cuts down the draw and concentrates the flavor a bit for a slower, more intense smoking experience. The AJ Fernandez New World Cameroon is a joining of the old world and the new, with interesting results that will pull you from one puff to the next.
