About
Fans of San Lotano have a fantastic new blend to try in the line: the AJ Fernandez San Lotano Dominicano cigar. This time around, AJ has teamed up with José “Jochy” Blanco and his operations at Tabacalera Palma in the Dominican Republic. Jochy has collaborated with a number of leading cigar makers, perhaps most notably Rafael Nodal, the creator of the Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua, the 2019 Cigar of the Year. In the San Lotano Dominicano cigar, you get a powerhouse 1-2 combination of Nicaraguan tobacco from AJ and Dominican tobacco from Jochy, plus a personality-packed Cuban-seed Brazilian wrapper leaf that takes the blend to a whole new level. That’s a lot of flavors for one blend, but in a master’s hands, the right balance can be struck. The San Lotano cigar line is named for Lutanos, which is the name of the people from AJ’s hometown of San Luis in Cuba. When he filed his application for a trademark to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, however, an “o” somehow made it into the name. Clearly, AJ knows how to roll with things and simply kept the name. Thus, the San Lotano cigar was born. The flavors here are fantastic. You’ll get toasted cedar, caramel, black coffee, and even an herbal licorice note on the finish. The star for most reviewers seems to be caramel, however. That salty sweetness comes through with enough clarity that more than one smoker has picked it out of the profile. Hopefully, you’ll be able to find it and enjoy another high-quality cigar from AJ Fernandez and his partner for the San Lotano Dominicano cigar, Jochy Blanco.
