By the time Lazuka caught the cigar bug and left his career as a restaurant entrepreneur to work sales for Colibri and Camacho, Eiroa had been cranking out 90+ rated blends for Camacho for some time. It’s good to meet people like this on your way to realizing a dream. Eventually, everything came together, and Asylum was born in 2012, a place to push traditional cigar-making limits. The name Asylum Insidious cigars might seem misleading, but it’s not. Asylum developed this blend to appeal to any cigar lover, no matter their level of experience. It also uses the first Asylum sweetened cap. Both of these are indeed insidious, but not in a sinister or treacherous manner, but in the insidious definitions of being sneak and crafty. (As deceptive as a pink-ish-hued cigar box with a skull?) Asylum Insidious cigars are the companies first use of an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. Beneath this mild and creamy leaf is a Honduran binder cradling high-quality Honduran long-fillers. On the cold draw, it’s already apparent that the sweet tip is subtle and by no means overboard. There are also grassy, tobacco, and cedar flavors. The sweetness is center stage once the stick is burning. Spice and nuts are also quite prominent.
