It's an odd combination on paper: the nostalgia of an old print, paired with a dress you can actually wear to work on a Tuesday. Neha Singh and Pranav Guglani started the label in 2015, and they've kept to one rule since: every print is drawn in-house. Nothing is licensed, nothing is lifted from an old catalogue. What Is a Vintage Print Dress? A vintage print dress isn't a copy of an old garment. It's new artwork, drawn in the style or palette of an earlier design era, then put onto a dress cut for how women actually move today. So a Cord dress might carry a 1970s floral or a mid-century travel motif, but the fit, seams, and silhouette are entirely current. The print carries the history. The cut doesn't. What Makes a Dress "Contemporary"? Here, "contemporary" isn't a decade or a trend cycle. It refers to how the dress is built: current pattern-drafting, forgiving silhouettes, fabric chosen for how it moves and breathes. Cord's contemporary pieces lean on shapes like the A-line, the wrap, and the tiered midi , styles that don't really date because they're built around the body rather than whatever's trending that season. Our Design Philosophy A print at Cord rarely starts with fabric. It usually starts with a photograph from someone's travels, a building's façade, an old textile pulled from an archive, or just a garden that interestingly repeats itself. Folk art and regional craft traditions come up a lot too — a block-print pattern, the color logic of a railway poster, a mid-century interior. From there it's slow going, on purpose.
