Tubular Mortice Latches for Internal Door Handles A tubular latch is the simple mechanism that holds a passage door closed and releases when the handle is pressed. It does not lock, making it suitable for living rooms, hallways, kitchens and other internal spaces where free access is needed. Choose the Right Case Length The main latch options are labelled with 64mm and 76mm case lengths. This measurement describes the length of the lock case fitted into the door; it is not the same as the backset, which is the distance from the door edge to the centre of the spindle. Use the selected product drawing when matching an existing latch or positioning a new handle. Match the Latch to the Handle A compatible lever handle turns the spindle that retracts the latch bolt. Rose handles are often positioned with the latch proportions in mind, while a backplate may place the lever at a fixed point on the plate. Compare door handles on rose and door handles on backplate before selecting parts separately. Finish and Pack Options The range includes fire-rated tubular latches in several visible faceplate finishes, with single, two-pack and four-pack choices. Matching the faceplate to nearby handles and hinges gives the door edge a more considered finish. Multipacks are useful when fitting several matching passage doors. When a Tubular Latch Is Not Enough A tubular latch does not provide bathroom privacy or key locking. For bathrooms, use a compatible bathroom mortice lock with a WC turn and release .
