They mount to walls or ceilings and are designed for semi-open, well-covered spaces — patios, balconies, verandas. Infrared heats objects and people rather than the air, so it works where a conventional heater would lose its output to the breeze. Choosing between them Electric units need a power supply and suit permanent installations. Gas units move. Infrared works better in covered but open-sided spaces where warm air escapes.
