Cheap does not have to mean disposable. Under about $300 you can still get a properly made detector from a real manufacturer, with a waterproof coil, usable target ID and parts you can still replace in a few years. What you give up is depth in mineralized ground, recovery speed in trash, and the finer tuning controls. For parks, dry sand, schoolyards and general coin shooting, that is a fair trade. What we would avoid is unbranded gear sold with no warranty and no coil support, which costs less once and more forever.
