Clynick writes for the detectorist who already owns a decent machine and suspects they are leaving finds in the ground. His Equinox and Manticore titles go past the manual into target response, tone behavior and the judgment calls that separate a dug signal from a walked-past one. The beach and shallow water books are the ones people quote most, particularly Pulsepower on hunting gold at the shore with a PI machine. Dense reading rather than light reading, which is rather the point.
