A hand dredge is what you take when the gold is in a crevice under two feet of water and a pan cannot reach it. The X-Stream Hybrid Pro pulls material and water together into the cup so you are recovering rather than just stirring, and it works in the bedrock cracks and boulder pockets where the good stuff settles after a flood. It is also permitted in a lot of waters where a motorized dredge is not, which is worth checking against your local rules before you go.
