Stitch (And glue) Up This Easy DIY Wall Art I love hydrangeas. A number of years ago, I saw a three dimensional hydrangea wall hanging festooned with blue blossoms, leaves, and stems with a border of pretty, softly colored hydrangea fabric. I loved the colors and the dimensional effects. But when I examined the construction details, the project seemed quite tedious to re-create, as the double-sided hydrangea pedals were made individually, and there was a large number of them. After some thought (and helped along with a few stems of silk hydrangea blossoms) I created an easy to make version. Directions follow. MATERIALS: 1 1/2 yards of light colored fabric for the background and back. 1 yard light weight cotton batting. 2-3 sprays of silk hydrangeas with leaves in your choice of colors. Choose smaller size blossoms to keep the design in scale. Select flowers with beaded center bracts for added interest. Glue gun and glue sticks. Dark green silk ribbon ¼ inch wide. MAKING THE QUILTED WALL HANGING BASE: The blossoms sit atop a standard quilted background which measures about 16 inches by 20 inches overall, excluding the 3 hanging loops I added to the top. You can make the background larger or smaller depending on the size wall hanging you’d like. I didn’t use a pattern, and scraps provided the needed fabrics. Create the inner block by cutting a 10 1/2 by 14 1/2 inch rectangle from the plain background fabric. Cut strips 3 ½ inches wide for the border. Using a ¼ inch seam, stitch the boarder to the top and bottom and then the sides. Press. Cut and stitch three hanging loops 1 ½ inches wide and 7 inches long. Press. Cut a back rectangle from the plain fabric and from the batting the same size as the top. Layer the quilt sandwich as follow: top and back right sides together with the hanging loops spaced between the two along the top, and the batting on top of the back. Leaving a 6 inch opening at the bottom for turning, stitch around the quilt sandwich using a ¼ inch seam
