Meaning Behind Lilies While lilies have many symbolic meanings, the most common are purity and fertility. Florists often use lily flowers in bridal bouquets. Types of Lilies Lilies are available in a wide range of colors, heights and bloom times. Here are five types of lilies to consider for your garden: Asiatic Lily —Producing up to 12 flowers per bulb, these lilies offer amazing color choices and loads of blooms. Their strong stems make them popular for cut-flower displays. They bloom in early to midsummer. Oriental Lily —Known for their sweet fragrance and gorgeous flowers, these lilies produce large flowers, often 6-9 in. across and are often used in wedding bouquets and centerpieces. They bloom in mid to late summer. Border Lily —Growing 14-18 inches tall, these may be Asiatic or Oriental, and their bloom times will vary from early to late summer. They produce full-sized flowers that look fantastic in front borders or cut-flower displays. Giant Lily —Also known as Giant Orienpet, these are a cross between Oriental and Trumpet Lilies. During their first year, they grow 3-4 ft. tall. Within three years, they usually grow 6-8 ft. tall with masses of often fragrant flowers. They bloom in ear
