Extendable dining room tables add function and style to your home. The ability to expand your dining set with a leaf or two makes it easy to host for special occasions. All table styles are available with a fixed, solid top or with leaves to extend the table. If you choose a dining table with leaves, we have several options. Choose the number of leaves you need to extend the table to your desired length. The leaves vary in size by the style of the table. We have standard 12" wide leaves, 16" wide leaves and 18" wide leaves. Round dining tables feature hinged, folding leaves for storing inside the tabletop. Types of Dining Room Table Extensions Choose the type of extension leaves you prefer. Standard extendable dining tables open from the center of the tabletop. This style allows you to add leaves to the middle of the table. The table opens easily with a gear driven track. Tables that open from the center of the table offer storage inside the tabletop for leaves. Most table styles can store a minimum of two leaves inside the table. This adds 24" to the length of the table when you extend it. General rule of thumb requires the table to be 12" longer than it is wide for leaves to store inside the top. Another common option for dining room tables with leaves is to add the leaves at the ends of the table. We call these breadboard extension leaves. The grain of the tabletop runs lengthwise with breadboard ends that run widthwise. The breadboard acts as a stabilizer as the solid wood expands and contracts in humidity changes throughout the year. Breadboard end extension leaves are popular with farmhouse tables that prefer the look of planks running the length of the table.
