About
Centranthus, also known as Red Valerian, is a carefree perennial that blooms for months and brings soft, airy color to the garden. It produces clusters of tiny star shaped flowers in shades of rosy pink, red, or pure white that sit on slender stems above grey green foliage. The plant has a light, natural look that fits beautifully into cottage gardens, rock gardens, and sunny borders. Centranthus thrives in full sun and well drained soil and actually prefers conditions that are a bit dry. It blooms from late spring through summer and often into fall, drawing butterflies and adding movement and charm wherever it grows. Easy, dependable, and long flowering, Centranthus is a lovely choice for gardeners who want color with very little effort.
