Vegan Beverages in India — Teas, Chai & Plant-Based Drinks Most packaged drinks in India contain dairy solids, honey or casein-based whiteners, which rules them out for anyone eating plant-based. This collection groups drinks that are dairy-free by formulation rather than by accident — loose-leaf and CTC teas, masala chai blends, herbal infusions, coffee, cocoa mixes, drinking chocolate, and ready plant-based lattes. How to choose Check the whitener. Instant chai and coffee premixes usually list "milk solids" or "sodium caseinate". Caseinate is milk-derived, so a pack marked "non-dairy creamer" is not automatically vegan. Sweetener matters. Honey is common in herbal and wellness blends. Look for jaggery, coconut sugar or unsweetened versions if you want control over sugar. Leaf grade for tea. Whole-leaf and orthodox teas brew lighter and re-steep; CTC granules give the strong body most Indian masala chai recipes expect. Caffeine. Rooibos, tulsi, chamomile and most herbal infusions are naturally caffeine-free. Green and white teas are not. Packaging. Many tea bags use a polypropylene seal. Loose leaf or paper-only bags avoid that. Browse related ranges in chai , dairy-free milk alternatives and superfoods . Vendor certifications are listed on our certifications page .
