Clean-Label Products in India — No Synthetic Fragrance, Parabens or Sulphates Everything is made of chemicals, water included, so "chemical free" is not a meaningful claim. What this collection actually groups is products formulated without a specific list of synthetic additives that people commonly want to avoid: synthetic fragrance, parabens, SLS and SLES sulphates, phthalates, artificial colours and formaldehyde releasers. What to check on the label "Fragrance" or "parfum" can cover dozens of undisclosed compounds. Products scented with named essential oils tell you more — though essential oils are themselves common allergens, so patch test. Sulphates appear as sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium laureth sulphate. They clean well but strip; coco-glucoside and decyl glucoside are the milder alternatives. Preservatives are necessary in anything water-based. A product with no preservative system and a long shelf life is a bigger risk than one preserved with a paraben alternative. Food packs — check the FSSAI licence number, the ingredient list and whether colours are named (turmeric, beetroot) or numbered (INS codes).
