About
A quality sealer is the essential first coat in any lacquer system - it locks the grain, reduces tannin bleed, and creates a consistent base for your polyurethane topcoats to bond to. Skipping or skimping on the sealer coat is one of the most common causes of adhesion failure, uneven sheen, and visible lap marks in the finished floor. Choosing the Right Sealer EcoGrit stocks water-based sealers from Berger-Seidle and Ciranova, formulated to work as part of a complete lacquer system. Universal sealers suit most Australian hardwoods and are compatible with both 1K and 2K polyurethane topcoats. Tannin-blocking sealers are recommended for high-tannin species like spotted gum and brush box, where bleed-through can discolour a standard clear coat.
