CPM-S90V is a premium, high-alloy martensitic stainless steel renowned for its exceptional wear resistance and unparalleled edge retention, owing to a high volume of hard vanadium carbides. However, this extreme wear resistance makes it notoriously difficult to sharpen and machine, requiring specialized abrasive tools like diamond or cubic boron nitride. Additionally, while highly corrosion-resistant due to its chromium content, its high carbide density reduces its overall toughness, making it susceptible to chipping if subjected to heavy impacts or prying tasks.
