Elmax is a premium powder-metallurgy stainless steel that offers an outstanding, all-around balance of high wear resistance, excellent corrosion resistance, and remarkable toughness. Unlike many ultra-hard steels, it resists chipping under heavy use while maintaining a razor-sharp edge for an extended period. Its primary drawback, however, is that its high carbide density makes sharpening relatively difficult, requiring proper technique and quality abrasives. Additionally, because it is a premium third-generation alloy, knives crafted from Elmax generally carry a higher price point.
