About
Pauldrons Pauldrons are one of the most impactful pieces of armor you can add to a LARP kit. A good set of shoulder armor changes the silhouette of a costume immediately, adding bulk, presence, and visual weight where it matters most. Whether you are building a hulking warrior, a disciplined soldier, or a stealthy ranger, the right pauldrons pull the whole look together. What Are Pauldrons? Pauldrons are shoulder armor pieces worn over the upper arm and shoulder. In historical armor they protected one of the most exposed areas of the body in combat, and in LARP they serve the same visual purpose: making a character look armored, battle-ready, and convincing. They work well worn alone over a tunic or gambeson, or as part of a larger armor set combined with a breastplate, bracers, and greaves. Unlike full arm armor, pauldrons allow for a good range of movement while still providing significant visual coverage. That balance of presence and practicality is what makes them such a popular choice for LARP builds. Pauldrons vs. Shoulder Armor: What Is the Difference? Pauldrons typically cover the shoulder and extend down over the upper arm, often with layered plates or structured leather. Shoulder armor is a broader term that can refer to smaller, simpler pieces that sit on the shoulder without the same extension down the arm. Both serve the same purpose in a LARP context and the choice between them usually comes down to the character archetype and how much coverage you want.
