About

Native hedging gives you privacy that also supports local wildlife, which an exotic hedge does not. Lilly pillies, callistemons and banksias all flower heavily enough to bring honeyeaters into a suburban boundary. Acmena lilly pillies are the most reliable choice for a long hedge run because they resist the psyllid that disfigures many Syzygium varieties. Westringia and Leptospermum suit coastal and exposed positions. Feed with low-phosphorus native fertiliser only. Standard garden fertilisers are high in phosphorus and will damage or kill banksias, grevilleas and hakeas in particular.
