About
Canadian Maples ( Acer rubrum and Acer × freemanii hybrids) are fast-growing deciduous shade trees prized for vivid scarlet, orange and crimson autumn foliage. The collection includes proven Australian-suited cultivars: 'October Glory', 'Autumn Red' (Fairview Flame), 'Redpointe' (Frank Jr), 'Autumn Blaze', and 'Armstrong' — all selected for reliable autumn colour, uniform pyramidal canopies and strong central leaders. Canadian Maples perform best in full sun with deep, well-drained soil and reliable moisture during establishment. They tolerate a wide range of climates, from cool temperate Melbourne and Adelaide through to subtropical NSW. Frost hardy and drought tolerant once established, with low long-term maintenance requirements. They look excellent in avenue plantings, civic streetscapes, large residential gardens, and parkland settings where a fast-growing shade tree with reliable autumn colour is required. Commonly specified by landscape architects and councils for their uniform habit and consistent seasonal performance.
