Frost Tolerant Trees
A collection page of Evergreen Trees Direct
About
Frost kills more newly planted trees than drought does. This range covers species that survive heavy and frequent frost once established, which is what inland and tablelands gardens need. Deciduous trees are dormant when the worst frosts arrive and are generally the safest choice for cold districts. Evergreens are more variable, so the frost hardy evergreens here have been separated out deliberately. Even a frost hardy tree needs protection in its first winter. Plant in spring or early autumn to give roots time to establish before the cold, and avoid low-lying frost hollows where cold air pools.
