The Maples collection brings together every Acer species we grow — Japanese Maples ( Acer palmatum ) for refined foliage and autumn colour, Canadian Maples ( Acer rubrum and Acer × freemanii ) for fast-growing shade and scarlet autumn displays, Trident Maple ( Acer buergerianum ) for compact street trees, Field Maple ( Acer campestre ) for hedging and screening, and Sugar Maple ( Acer saccharum ) for cool-climate parkland. Maples perform best in well-drained, slightly acidic soils with reliable moisture during establishment. Japanese Maples prefer part shade with shelter from harsh afternoon sun; Canadian and Trident Maples tolerate full sun. The genus is frost tolerant across cool to warm temperate Australian gardens and develops outstanding autumn colour, especially in cooler southern regions. They look excellent as feature trees, shade trees, avenue plantings, courtyard specimens and large container plants.
