About
Alexandrine parakeets come with a very long tail which requires extra space. They are an interesting bird that thrives in routine and become accustomed to the habits of their owners. They require daily handling and tend to bond to one or two people if both parties are providing equal amounts of attention. The main diet should consist of pellets with lots of fresh vegetables and some fruits. We do not recommend feeding seed as the main diet, only as the occasional treat. Since they have extra dietary needs, some extra leg work may be required such as finding a soy-free diet or adding a vitamin supplement for extra vitamin A content. A lexandrines chew LOTS. They are the beavers of the bird world! Perches should be of the hardwood variety.
