Coronation Weekend Plans Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in September 2022, King Charles III acceded to the throne immediately after Elizabeth II’s passing, However the actual coronation day takes a lot of planning and is set to take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 th May. Across the long weekend, there will be plenty of opportunity for communities to celebrate and on Sunday 7 th May, people will come together for what is billed as “The Coronation Big Lunch” where neighbours and communities will get together for a celebratory lunch with street parties and fun throughout the day, culminating in a special Coronation Concert broadcast live from Windsor Castle.
