Why Do you Need a Dress Lining? Lining can elevate your dress or skirt either by making it hang better or by adding extra warmth or simply providing a nicer feel between the main fabric of the garment and the wearer's skin. It is particularly useful for coarser fabrics like wool where a silky lining prevents the garment from riding up or sticking to tights. Dress lining also protects the main fabric from wear and tear. A high quality lining fabric conceals seams and hems so the garment looks more finished. Which Clothes Need Lining Material? A lining is essential for a coat or a jacket as these are often worn open and it enhances the look of the jacket or coat if there is a lining in a complementary colour to the outer fabric.
