Hessian fabric , or burlap in the US, is a woven fabric usually made from skin of the jute plant or from sisal fibres. It's a coarse natural fabric often used in sacking. Our luxury hessian has a tighter weave and is less coarse than our basic hessian. Please note - there will be irregularities in this cloth which are a natural feature and not a fault. What is Hessian Fabric Used For? Hessian is often used in upholstery projects and hessian upholstery is usually used to contain the fillers of upholstery cushions and seat pads. It is also perfect for making sacks at Christmas and for creating a rustic interior vibe. What is the Difference between Hessian and Jute? Although hessian is often made from the jute plant, jute is considered the higher quality more up-market alternative to hessian and is often used to make bags, rugs and other products for the home. Hessian has a looser weave and is coarser than jute. Many people refer to hessian and jute interchangeably.
