What is Jersey Fabric? Jersey is a knit fabric which is widely used in clothing to make T-shirts, sweatshirts, women's tops and dresses. Originally made in Jersey in the Channel Islands (hence its name) from wool, it is now most often made from cotton. Jersey material has a flat side and a piled side and feels very soft against the skin which makes it so comfortable to wear. The unique look and feel of jersey fabric comes from the knitting process which loops the fibres together rather than weaving which provides a degree of stretch. The stretch is often enhanced with a small amount of elastane. What is cotton elastane jersey?
