Lace is a fine, web like fabric typically made from yarn or thread using either cotton thread or synthetic fibres. Originally lace was made from linen or silk. Lace fabric is characterised by open patterns in different designs. The open patterns are made by embroidering on a machine-made net fabric or on a fabric which is either dissolved away or burned away to create the pattern. How to Cut Lace Fabric Before sewing with lace it is a good idea to gently pre-wash it by hand but never wring it out. Some lace fabric has a right and a wrong side so identify the right side if this is the case. Iron on a cool setting with a clean cloth over the top to remove any wrinkles. Always cut around the main design features of the lace rather than straight across to avoid damage and fraying. This is particularly important if the lace fabric has a scalloped edge. Make sure to use a sharp pair of scissors and avoid stretching the lace as you are cutting it. What is Lace Fabric Used For?
