TENCEL™ Lyocell fabric TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are often combined with other textiles like cotton, polyester, or wool, and make great dressmaking fabrics with a lovely drape. TENCEL™ Lyocell fabric is hard-wearing and soft next to the skin. TENCEL™ Modal fabric TENCEL™ Modal fabric is known for being super soft and comfortable to wear. Often blended with cotton it is a lovely breathable fabric ideal for nightwear. What is TENCEL™ Used for? Tencel was trademarked 30 years ago and is now used to manufacture all kinds of garments including athleisure wear, denim, home wear like bedding and even footwear. Is TENCEL™ the Same as Viscose? The production process is similar as it uses wood pulp to regenerate the cellulose fibres. However, the big difference is that the chemicals used in Tencel production are far less harmful, they are almost all recycled and the production only uses wood from sustainable forests. What are the Advantages of TENCEL™? It is absorbent and highly breathable like cotton but also has the drape and texture of viscose so it has become increasingly popular as a fabric in the fashion industry. It is also incredibly soft to the touch so is very popular to make nightwear. How to care for TENCEL™ Tencel can shrink on the first wash but after that should not shrink further. Wash at low temperatures and preferably line dry, first shaking out any creases. Do not tumble dry as this can shrink Tencel.
